That's us...working.

DiveMex that's Anna Paola Colombo and Dirk Zimmermann.

DiveMex, that's Anna Paola Colombo and Dirk Zimmermann. We got to know each other in the Maldives in the winter of 2004. Anna Paola worked as a diving instructor and I as a tour guide for the World of TUI on the island of Boduhiti. It’s here that my diving career as an Open Water Diver and later as an Advanced Open Water Diver started. Anna Paola was already an experienced dive instructor at the time, having worked in Italy, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Mexico, and other islands of the Maldives.

After a brief stay in Crete, Sharm el Sheikh and Rhodes, we arrived in Playa del Carmen in the winter of 2006 without a clear idea of what to do. Anna Paola was looking for a job as a diving instructor and I was supposed to start working in the spring as a tour guide for the World of TUI in Playa del Carmen.

Right at the beginning we started the project DiveMex as an online dive center with a personal touch. We really enjoyed diving but we didn't like how diving worked here in Mexico. Everything was quick and fast and anything but personal. We wanted something completely different. "Slow-diving" with as much focus on the dive as on the before and after.

Slowly we found out that we were not alone with this desire. More and more divers found their way to us and after mid-2008 we took over the Hotel Villa del Mar, so we finally had a real diving school with the correct address.

The project Hotel Villa del Mar turned out to be quite difficult the first 2 years, and additional problems such as swine flu and economic crisis demanded our full concentration on the hotel.

By the end of 2010 everything was back to normal and we were able to re-focus the project on DiveMex. With increasingly good reviews on Taucher.net and Tripadvisor.com, the diving school was slowly but steadily growing.

In November 2012 it was time to take it to the next level. We moved the dive center out of the hotel. The new address is only 2 minutes from the Hotel Villa del Mar in Calle 2 between Avenida 10 and Avenida 15. It’s a small dive shop with tables and chairs for some comfortable sitting after the dives.

In June 2013 we ended the project Hotel Villa del Mar. We returned to the hotel to the owner and the focus is now to 1000% on the diving school.

The goal is to continue to deliver an excellent personal service. We want to have fun while diving and provide fun for our customers. We would like to offer you the diving experience we wish we had ourselves.

True to the motto !!! ... Diving with friends.

Whale shark during the snorkeling excursion with DiveMex
Snorkeling with whale sharks

Every year between mid-May and mid-September, these amazing animals come to us on the Riviera Maya. In the main time, hundreds of these giants frolic in the region between Isla Holbox, Isla Mujeres, and Isla Contoy, the Marine National Park. During this season, this body of water is extremely rich in plankton and, in addition to whale sharks, the region also hosts manta rays, dolphins and turtles. Inquire specifically about the trip to the whale sharks; it's an unforgettable experience for sure....read more
